Hmm, gotta keep these guys on my backpocket list (we don't go into downtown area much). Spelling errors ..... LOL. That's what make the Asian menus so fun ! Recently I was at a HK-style cafe here in Vancouver and noticed they offered "Satan Beef with Fried Rice Noodles" ....... I'm sure it's wickedly good :-)

Yup, XLBs at SR are also very good. I do find that most restos can be slightly inconsistent from day-to-day when it comes to these items, so my personal comparisons are only made based on the times when I ate there, it's near impossible to do a representative AB tests. Although I suspect Long's and The Place are more consistent due to their Mom & Pop nature and they're made-to-order by the same people everyday.

Bon appetit.

Hey LotusRapper...Thanks for the comment and the nice words. I agree that we do some cuisines better down here in Seattle. That's partly why I don't explore much beyond Chinese food and Japanese food when I go to Vancouver!

I love "The Place" restaurant! Nice people and good, cheap, food. A few weeks back, I realized that I forgot to blog about some Vancouver/Richmond restaurants I've hit recently, so I'm overdue in posting about them. My favorite xlb are at Shanghai River, Long's, and The Place. Those would be my top three. Dinesty and Top Shanghai are pretty good, too, though for me a notch below my top three.

Hi there Jay, I've been lurking on your blog for a few months now, and this is my first post. We're frequent visitors to SEA area and Bellingham and Skagit Valley. You're right in that SEA Chinese and Japanese restos aren't quite up to the competition here in Greater Vancouver. Having said that there are *lots* of cuisines that you have that I personally feel are superior to ours (Southern, Thai, latin/Mexican, Midwestern, Italian, etc) and for legit reasons. So maybe it's one of those "grass is always greener on the other side" depending on what cuisines you are comparing.

Back to XLBs ...... I've not been to the new DTF in Bellevue. But have tasted plenty XLBs here in Vancouver/Richmond. At the moment, "The Place" on Granville St. in Marpole neighbourhood of Vancouver has my vote, tied with Top Shanghai (Richm), Dinesty (Richm) and Long's (Vanc). At The Place and at Long's, you can see them make the XLBs to order, up close and personal as it were. The Place is also quite cheap by comparison to the other local Shanghai/Northern Chinese restos here. Check out its reviews on Urbanspoon Vancouver and you'll see the evidence.

Thanks for keeping such a great blog.
