Last year, a slightly late train meant we couldn’t make it to Park Kitchen; this year, an early arrival by car ensured that we could drop our bags and head over to Nong’s Khao Man Gai just before the lunch rush. I’d heard rave reviews about the “chicken and rice” place that many tout as the best food cart in Portland, and as ate our food, a tablemate pointed out a chef in line and two restaurateurs approaching as proof of the popularity.
Great concept with well-executed food. The chicken is surprisingly moist, and the rice is flavorful. I liked the side of skins more than the side of livers. Without a doubt, I’d recommend Nong’s to anyone, though personally it’s not quite as bold as I like my food.

A closer look at the menu.

As exciting as the moment before opening up birthday presents.

With liver…

With chicken skin…
More on Nong’s…

My favorite sign at Nong’s food cart.

Spella Caffe is in the same pod of carts (just down the street) as Nong’s. A great place to catch a post-chicken coffee. Nice people, nice coffee.
